Historic Race Bikes Outside of Australia

International Competitors

Bona fide International competitors riding Machines from countries other than Australia do not require a log book, but are required to complete an Overseas Usage form and approval to be granted by Motorcycling Australia. If you are invited to participate in one of our events we will assist with this application.

Overseas competitors’ machines must comply with either their own competition rules, or those of Australia. They can’t be a combination of both to gain a competitive advantage.

Noise and Fuel

Noise restrictions are in place see the GCR’s. Avgas is no longer available for use in historic racing. Methanol (Alcohol) is legal for machines up to and including P4. Unleaded fuel up to 99RON is the new “black”, most four stroke owners adding a fuel additive as valve lubricant.

Racing

Classic motorcycle racing in Australia is conducted under the rules of Motorcycling Australia. Motorcycling Australia (MA) produce a “Manual of Motorcycle Sport” known as the “MoMS” every year which includes each disciplines General Competition Rules (GCR’s). The most relevant section is Section 8, Historic Road Racing, however the general rules should be read as they also apply to our discipline. You will find the rules add to your knowledge of track rules, flags, protective clothing, helmets, and a myriad of valuable information for competitors and entrants.

Each state in Australia has an organisation that manages the sport, known as its “State Controlling Body” or SCB. The SCB issue race permits and licences on behalf of MA.

International Licences

Motorcycling Australia undertakes the application for a licence for Australians to compete overseas, including New Zealand.

CMRC has a wealth of knowledge on what is required to obtain an FIM licence, international race insurance and the paperwork required to ship a bike and obtain a permit to compete overseas. Riders outside of Australia will require a licence to ride at FIM sanctioned events in Australia. CMRC will provide information on these requirements for our events. The greatest suggestion we offer is to plan early and leave time for the paperwork to be completed.
